Why Buy a Plasma Television?

While Plasma televisions are relatively new to the market, the actual technology has been around since the middle of the 1960’s. The first plasma displays were very simple points of light that were created for laboratory experiments and purposes. As time went along the technology was developed and refined to the point that the first plasma screens entered the United States at the end of 1999. The Plasma screen is one of the best examples in how far the technology of the television has come, as well as one of the best ways to enjoy digital images in the comfort of your home.

High Resolution Picture

Many fans of the plasma television boast about its high resolution, and it is one of its selling points. There is no doubt; plasma televisions have a much higher resolution than your traditional television set. Plasma is also capable of displaying HDTV and DTV signals as well as XGA, SVGA, and VGA signals from computers. Those that love the high definition pictures that are available through DVD as well as some of the cable and satellite providers love plasma televisions because the picture is far and away better than what has been seen by consumers on other televisions sets.

Outstanding Color

One of the great features of a plasma television is that it can literally display thousands of colors, providing the best color accuracy available on the market today. Of course, the top of the line plasma televisions are the most accurate, but all plasmas are able to offer better accuracy than your conventional TV. Combining the plasma with a DVD or other digital picture will allow for very subtle shades to be displayed for a very life like picture. Most experts agree that when it comes to color accuracy, there isn’t anything that can compare to the plasma screen.

No Scan Lines With Plasma

With conventional CRT televisions, visible scan lines can be seen. These scan lines are the result of a electron beam that scans the picture tube from top to bottom to light the phosphors as that is how an image is created. Plasma lines do not have these scan lines because every pixel has its very own transistor electrode that helps to create a more regular and smoothly lit surface, providing a better picture. Not only does each pixel have its own transistor electrode, many of the newer plasma screens also have line doubling built in to further improve the quality of lower resolution signals.

The Plasma Screen

Many say that the plasma screen is most comfortable to watch because it has a wide screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is designed to match the natural field of vision for most people. Those that enjoy movies will also like this because you will be watching your movies as they were shot, and as the director wanted his or her audience to see the film. This aspect ratio is also the preferred format for all HDTV programs. When you have a plasma screen it can also automatically resize television or movies that are not shot in this aspect ratio to give you the best possible picture, no matter what you are watching.

The plasma screen is also perfectly flat, so flat that there are no curves or anything. The flat nature of the screens does away with a lot of the distortion that occurs in displays that are not flat and makes the wide screen look even more impressive. Many of the plasma screens today are also made with a no glare screen protective coating so that the picture is as clear and untarnished as possible.

Because of the way that a plasma screen is made there is uniform screen brightness along with uniform color. Many of the rear projection televisions that were once very popular had hot spots or spots where the light was brighter or darker. Plasma televisions do not suffer from the areas of dark and light, instead the screen, light, and coloring is perfectly uniform.

Take Back Your Living Room!

Probably one of the most attractive features of the plasma television, even for those that don’t necessarily care about the technology, is that it allows homeowners to take back their living rooms! For so long we have lived with these big, bulky televisions that were basically a piece of furniture. Now, we have plasma televisions that have a very thin design that will allow us to take back our floor space. There are actually plasmas with display screens that are just a few inches deep. This thin size allows owners to mount the television on walls, from a ceiling, or on small table stands. While these TV’s are big in features and technology, they are space saving and great for homes of any size.
